Besthorpe Quarry

Besthorpe Quarry is an established sand and gravel quarry located approximately 1km north-east of the village of Collingham. Mineral extraction and progressive restoration has taken place at the site since the mid-1980s and the extracted material is used in a wide variety of construction projects across Nottinghamshire and the wider East Midlands. Workable mineral reserves will be exhausted at the site within the next 2 years.

Tarmac is proposing an eastern extension of Besthorpe Quarry, covering 36.5ha (90 acres) of which a 28.7ha (71 acres) area would be used for mineral extraction. The total application area is 130ha (321 acres) including the retained processing plant site, mineral stocking areas and water lagoons. The proposed extension will not increase levels of activity at the site or lead to an increase in vehicle movements.
